Wednesday Weekly Wishlist: An Elvish Skating Dress

Since we are during the Olympics, I thought I would show the inspiration for a project which is on my Wishlist. During the Torino Winter Olympics, one skating dress really caught my eye: Margarita Drobiazko's dress for the Free Dance program, which she performed with her partner Povilas Vanagas also smashingly dressed) on music from The Phantom of the Opera, as they represented Lithuania in the competition. They ended up with an 8th place, which is, I believe, quite good for Olympics standards.

Here are all the pictures I found for this dress (found
here):

(I know, the caption for the picture is repetitive, but it is for reference purposes.)

Do you see how this could easily become an Elvish Dress? I would keep the sleeves' shape, but make the skirt longer, one piece and lined. The bustier / corset would be made of white satin and edged in dark pink satin trim, and then laced in the back.

Oh, the dyeing process would be fun! Trying not to splash the rest of the white chiffon with the pink and red dye baths, and getting the proper graded look... I know a Sweetheart who will want to make sure I do this outside! He was never really fond of my dyeing experiences, especially when it involves the stove or our shower (who would want to wash next to 6 metres of coral dripping brocade, really).

So I'll have to keep this one for the summer.
